Colonoscopy is an endoscopic procedure used to examine and treat the large intestine, aiding in the timely diagnosis of pathological changes (inflammation, polyps, tumors, etc.).
Following a consultation with a specialist, the procedure is performed according to the individual’s specific conditions. During the colonoscopy tissue samples may be taken for biopsy, tumors may be removed, and bleeding can be stopped if necessary.
The procedure causes no pain as general (intravenous) anesthesia is administered. These services are performed by abdominal surgeon Marijus Ambrazevičius.
We recommend arranging a someone to assist you with your return home.
During the colonoscopy examination, the entire bowel must be completely empty; therefore, it is recommended to follow the instructions and take laxatives before the procedure to aid in its cleansing.
On the day of the procedure, the patient should not consume any fluids or food (except for cases where medication is necessary due to a another chronic condition; in such instances, a pill may be taken with a small sip of water).
2-3 days before the scheduled procedure, the patient should avoid consuming grain cultures, seeds, nuts, as well as fruits and vegetables other than white colored ones.
On the day preceding the examination, follow a specific diet: for breakfast, you can eat a boiled egg and a spoonful of rice until 9 a.m. For the rest of the day, consume up to 2 liters of clear fluids. Strictly limit alcohol, dairy products, opaque juices, and soups. Our clinic specialists will provide you with detailed guidance before the procedure.
Please consume light breakfast (e.g., boiled egg with a slice of white bread or a small bowl of rice) before 9 a.m. For the remaining time before the procedure, only consume clear fluids up to 2 liters per day.
Here are the instructions regarding the use of the bowel preparation liquid and colonoscopy timing:
Colonoscopy between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.: drink the liquid no less than 6 hours before the scheduled examination.
Colonoscopy between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.: Take a portion of the liquid on the day before the procedure and also on the day of the examination, ensuring it is consumed no later than 4 hours before the scheduled procedure time.
